Late May is a prime time to catch catfish from Kentucky's reservoirs, small lakes, rivers and farm ponds.

"The water is warming into the 70s and catfish are about to spawn," said Gerry Buynak, assistant director of the Fisheries Division for the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources. "Beginning in late spring and throughout the summer, catfish settle into daily patterns and feed aggressively."

I’ve never been a big television watcher.

I do enjoy sitting with my lovely wife Leigh when we have time and watching certain shows and have always enjoyed watching most sports on the tube including a good NASCAR race. I typically don’t watch much of anything live anymore since I can do all the recording, pausing and rewinding live TV with my satellite setup. I can also skip the annoying commercials.

SHELBYVILLE – The instructions to Steven Watts were simple: Just throw strikes.

The senior right-hander pounded like a prize fighter last Tuesday as Anderson County knocked Spencer County out of the 30th District baseball tournament at Collins High School.

Watts struck out 14 Spencer County batters and allowed just one hit as the Bearcats rolled to a 4-0 semi-final win. It was the fifth time in six years that Anderson had eliminated the Bears in district play.

SHELBYVILLE – Granville Hayes just wanted to put the bat on the ball.

Hayes stroked a one-out, bases-loaded single to score Tanner Roberts, giving Anderson County a 2-1 walk-off win over Owen County Monday night in the first round of the Eighth Region Tournament being held at Collins High School.

Hayes, who had struck out with the bases loaded in the third inning, drove Stone Osborne's 0-2 pitch to the right side of the infield. Owen could not make a play, setting off a wild celebration among the Anderson players.

CRESTWOOD – As soon as Kaci Currens connected, it was a no-doubter.

The Anderson County eighth-grader belted a monster grand slam in the bottom of the first that was the spark for the Lady Bearcats' 8-1 win over 32nd District runner-up Simon Kenton Monday night in the opening round of the Eighth Region softball tournament at South Oldham High School.
