  • STATE CHAMPS!

    LEXINGTON – It was supposed to be a Black-out with t-shirts, jerseys and all the trappings.

    Instead, it was a gut-out as the Anderson County Middle School girls' basketball team earned the state championship with a 34-26 win over Whitley County at Rupp Arena on Friday afternoon.

    Anderson overcame adversity – some perceived, some real – to overcome the win Anderson County's first state scholastic basketball state title at any level.

  • Lady Bearcats defeat Ballard,...

    Anderson County's experienced players came up big as the Lady Bearcats defeated Ballard, 60-52, in girls' basketball action Saturday afternoon.

    Senior Kara Yeaste scored 18 points and sophomore Sydney Brown tallied 17 as the Lady Bearcats never trailed against the Louisville team.

    Anderson jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first four minutes and the outcome was never in serious doubt. The Lady Bruins to within four on two occasions but were never closer.

  • Bearcats roll in opener

    Casey County came to town with the reputation of having some serious shooters, but the Rebels met their match with Tyler Hyatt Monday night.

    Making his first varsity start, Hyatt scorched Casey for 17 first half points, hitting five of eight 3-point shots as Anderson County rolled to a 61-42 win in the basketball season-opener for both teams.

    The Anderson County boys' basketball team will play perennial power Pleasure Ridge Park Thursday night in Louisville. Tip off is at 7:30 p.m. with the junior varsity game at 6 p.m.

    That is what you can call the Anderson County Middle School girls' basketball team.

    The Lady Mustangs ended their middle school careers Friday afternoon with a 34-26 win over Whitley County in the state championship game at Rupp Arena.

    As I walked out of Commonwealth Stadium on Saturday night, the Volunteer band kept playing louder and louder. And I kept getting sicker and sicker at what I had just seen happen just a few feet in front of me.

  • Bearcats roll in opener

    Jacob Russell scored 18 points and pulled down 19 rebounds while Nick Humphries and Tyler Hyatt, making his first varsity start, both tallied 17 as Anderson County rolled past visiting Casey County 61-42 in the basketball season opener Monday night.

    Humphries also pulled down seven rebounds.

    Hyatt blistered Casey from the outside, nailing five 3-pointers in the first half. as the Bearcats built a double-digit lead by early in the second quarter and, for the mot part, kept it there the rest of the way.
