  • Mud run!

DRY RIDGE – Anderson County did nothing fancy. Mother Nature saw to that Friday night.

Still, the Bearcats exploded for 20 third quarter points on the way to a 41-0 rout of host Grant County in the Class 5A, District 4 opener for both teams.

  • BOYS SOCCER: Woodford strikes...

VERSAILLES – Third-ranked Woodford County scored three times in less thantwo minutes, then added a late insurance goal to defeat Anderson County 4-1 in boys' soccer action Thursday night.

The game had originally been scheduled for Anderson County but heavy rains this week rendered the Bearcats' pitch unplayable. A decision to move the game to the Woodford field was announced earlier in the day on Thursday.

  • Mr. Russell's neighborhood

NEW CASTLE -- On the stat sheet, it was almost an after-thought.

Trailing 28-7 midway through the third quarter, Henry County was threatening to make a game of it again, having driven from its own nine yard line to the Anderson County six. A Henry receiver, who shall remain unnamed, took a short pass then turned up field.

The stat sheet simply recorded a tackle by Jacob Russell.

Reality recorded, “BOOM!” And a whole lot of “Ohhhh!” from the crowd.

Welcome to the Mr. Russell’s Neighborhood.

  • ONLINE EXTRA: Lady Cat...

The Anderson County volleyball team saw any chance at getting the top seed in the 28th District tournament go by the wayside, then absorbed a defeat from the defending regional champion in last week's action.

Tuesday, Shelby County clinched the No. 1 slot in the upcoming district tournament with a three-game win over the Lady Bearcats in Shelbyville. Anderson almost seemed to be two different teams as the Lady Bearcats rolled to a 25-16 win in the first game, then saw Shelby come back with 25-13 and 25-14 wins.

  • Bearcats dismantle previously...

Describing Anderson County's 42-7 rout of Henry County on Friday night as impressive would be inadequate.

The Bearcats ruined the previously unbeaten Wildcats' homecoming with a dominating performance no one outside the Anderson locker room could have envisioned.

The Bearcats piled up 511 yards of offense and limited Henry to 188. The Bearcats put 42 points up on a team that had been giving up just six a game, good enough for second in the state.
