Boys' soccer: Western Hills rallies past Bearcats
The Anderson County boys' soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Western Hills on Tuesday night as Western Hills scored twice in the final 25 minutes to pull out the district win. The Bearcats fell to 4-5-0 on the year, 0-2 in district play. They host Frankfort Thursday at 6 p.m.

“We are looking for better execution against Frankfort,” Anderson coach Brett Morris said, adding that the Bearcats need “more shots on goal and fewer silly mistakes.”

  • Her heart is in getting to San...

Tony Bennett might have left his heart in San Francisco, but Shea Fridh is putting everything she has into getting there for a cause dear to her heart.

The Anderson County resident is a member of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training as she points to running her first half-marathon in The City by the Bay on Oct. 13. In doing so, she will be raising money for research into the dreaded diseases.

  • FACE TO FACE: Best friends...

The girls’ soccer team at Anderson County High School has consistently been one of the school’s most respected over the last decade, as the program has often been ranked among the state’s Top 25. The current season started as no exception with the Lady Bearcats ranked 25th, despite heavy graduation losses from last year.

  • FOOTBALL: Bearcats to rekindle...

Commonwealth Stadium won’t be the site of the state’s only football rivalry this weekend.

Friday, Anderson County hosts Mercer County in a renewal of one of the oldest, and at times, most heated, rivalries for either school. The series has been played sporadically over the years but reached its zenith on the grudge-meter when the schools were district rivals from 1987 to 1996 and usually battled for a state playoff berth.

  • COLUMN: Sweet dreams game? Not...

Remember that day back in 1983 when the Cats and Cards finally duked it out on the basketball court?

Never mind that the luck of the NCAA tournament draw put the programs on a collision course to meet in Knoxville, Tenn., of all places, for the right to play in the Final Four.

    It was the Dream Game.

  • Improved Anderson volleyball...

SHELBYVILLE – To see the demeanor around the Anderson County volleyball team Monday night, one might think the Lady Bearcats had just won the game of the year.

To be sure, they had dropped a 26-24, 25-22 decision to host Collins, the team that has owned the 30th District since the school opened last year.

But for Anderson, at least, victories might not always show on the scoreboard.

  • Golfers perform well

Anderson County golfer Darrin Laswell is all smiles after being selected to the All-Central Kentucky Conference team at the  conference tournament on Saturday.

The Anderson County boys’ golf team improved to 10-1 on the year with impressive wins over Franklin County at Juniper Hills and over Collins and Mercer County on the home course at Wild Turkey Trace.
