  • COLUMN: Let the debate begin

Well now, about the only thing left for college basketball in this state is for someone suit up a team from Waddy U. just to split the difference between Kentucky and Louisville.

Two years and two champions just down the road from each other.

Maybe a team from Alton or Tyrone can join them?

Really, though, what a run for the Commonwealth the last two years and it might just continue.

  • COLUMN: Louisville’s run part of...

Notes written on a worthless NCAA tournament bracket...

Before the tournament started, I wrote online that seven or eight teams could win the national championship and that no team was as dominant as Kentucky was last year.

    I was wrong.

Of course, down to four. Theoretically, any one of the four could go home with the big trophy.

But what I have seen over the last two weeks belies what I had seen and read through the regular season. Louisville might be just as dominant as the Wildcats were last year.

  • Dance team celebrates season

The Anderson County High School dance team held its year end banquet on March 26 at Eagle Lake Convention Center.

  • ACIT participants

Three local youth basketball teams participated in the Anderson County Invitational Tournament last weekend.

  • GIRLS' TENNIS: Serving high...

    Young, but owning potential.

That is how Anderson County girls' tennis coach Jeremy Cook describes his team as the high school season gets into full swing.

Weather played havoc with the early season schedule, but Anderson got in three matches last week and will return to the court with a full schedule when the school resumes after spring break next week.

  • SOFTBALL: Cats take Russell...

Anderson County was hitting on all cylinders as the Lady Bearcats rolled to four wins in the Russell County Lady Laker Classic over the weekend in Russell Springs. Anna-Marie Hyatt, Molly Burkhead and Marissa Walker all had big tournaments at the plate while pitcher Mia Aldridge earned victories in three games.

Anderson has opened the season at 5-0 before heading to the Gulf Shores, Ala. area for spring break.

  • BASKETBALL: Cann, McKee named to...

Anderson County High School girls' basketball players Makenzie Cann and Eriel McKee have been selected to the Kentucky Junior All-Star team, announced Sunday.

McKee, a 5-10 junior forward, averaged nearly 18 points and eight rebounds a game for the Lady Bearcats in 2012-13. McKee also became the all-time leading scorer in Anderson County girls' basketball history in mid-January. She needs just over 200 points to become the all-time leading scorer, girls or boys, in Anderson County history.

  • SOFTBALL: Lady Bearcats open...

It was only the softball season-opener, but Anderson County pitchers have already issued a “Can you top this?” challenge.

Freshmen Ally Moore and Mia Aldridge combined for a no-hitter as the Lady Bearcats rolled  Coffman High of Dublin, Ohio, 10-0 in five innings, last Wednesday at the Anderson field.

  • BASEBALL: Bearcat bats silenced...

Anderson County baseball is looking for bats. Any size, any shape or any color. Just anything that might generate some offense.

At least, that was the case last week as the Bearcats mustered just one hit in two games, dropping contests at Paul L. Dunbar and Madison Central. Two strong Bearcat pitching performances went by the board.
