LAWRENCEBURG — It was a short but tough week on the diamond for the Anderson County Bearcats.

Opening up the 30th District baseball action, the Woodford County Yellow Jackets gave proof that they are again one of the top teams in the state.

On consecutive nights, Anderson County batters were shut out by a very good pitching staff.

Last Tuesday, Anderson County was the home team and fell 11-0 in six innings.

The Bearcat pitching staff was roughed up for seven earned runs and eight hits.

Starter Judson Van Neste gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings and Dylan Azzinaro allowed eight runs (only four were earned) in an inning of work. Westin Vincent had a clean inning on the mound.

Offensively, Anderson County could muster only three hits, a double by Logan Grubb and two singles by Brent Johnson and Cooper Burgin.

Things didn’t get any easier on the following night as the Bearcats made the trip to Woodford County.

In just four at-bats, Woodford County scored 10 runs in another shutout victory.

This time, Grubb gave up seven runs in getting four outs. And Brent Johnson gave up three runs in his seven outs. All the runs were earned.

Offensively, Anderson County did get five hits on the night — all singles. Grubb, Bradley Johnson, Eli Castle, Burgin and Brennan Clark all had singles on the night.

Coach Larry Barnes’ team was back on the field earlier this week with another district battle against Spencer County. On Tuesday, the game was in Lawrenceburg with the return trip Wednesday to Taylorsville.

The team will play in the Harrison Memorial Hospital Invitational on Saturday. The 10 a.m. game will see Somerset as the opponent. The game at 12:45 p.m. will be against Whitley County.

Next Monday, Danville will visit and Anderson County will go on the road Wednesday to play Franklin County.
