Help, when she needed it most

Homeless woman finds shelter, respite through local agencies

By Christian Marnon

She walked into the Bluegrass Community Action office in September with little hope.

L. Innanen, whose name has been altered for safety precautions due to a domestic violence situation, felt the walls closing in as another bitter winter drew near.

BGCA seemed like a good resource for locating cold weather essentials.

“I knew about Community Action and I was coming basically for a list of blankets, getting ready for winter to hit,” said Innanen, who was homeless at the time. “I knew I could survive if I had certain things.”
