Legion to celebrate 100 years March 10

-A A +A
By The Staff

In March 1919, four decorated World War I soldiers hatched a plan to create a national veterans organization. From March 15-17, about 1,000 officers and enlisted men gathered in Paris for the first caucus of The American Legion, where they adopted a temporary constitution, elected an executive subcommittee, and, of course adopted the Legion name.

By September 16 of that year, Congress chartered the American Legion, which now boasts more than 2 million members and over 12,000 posts in communities across the country.
