Council debates higher rates as cemetery loses money

The Lawrenceburg City Council on Monday unanimously approved Mayor Troy Young’s recommendation to name the city’s next fire chief.

Mike Barnes, the former county fire chief who retired several years ago following a decades-long career as a firefighter in Lexington, will replace Bobby Hume, who earlier this year announced he plans to retire in August.

“I’m very excited to follow Chief Hume,” Barnes said during the meeting. “I have 39 years of experience, and hopefully we can make this a smooth transition.”
