Salvisa Christmas parade to be held Saturday
The city of Salvisa will be hosting its annual Salvisa Christmas parade on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m.
The parade features a Lex 18 meteorologist as the grand marshal, according to event organizers.
There will be host chocolate, coffee and snacks with Santa at the Salvisa Ruritan building following the parade.
The Christmas parade festivities also include float and snow queen contests.

Retired teachers to meet Thursday
The Anderson County Retired Teachers’ Association will meet Thursday, Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. at First Christian Church on Main Street, according to a news release.
“Please bring a food item for Open Hands Pantry and a hors d’ oeuvre to share with other retired teachers,” event organizers said.
The association announced that its special speaker for the meeting will be Lauren Fowler, current Anderson County Young Miss for 2013-2014.
“Please come to meet Lauren and share information and hors d’ oeuvres,” the release said.

General Butler State Park to host ‘Festival of Trees’
The General Butler State Resort Park, located on 1608 Hwy 227 in Carrollton, will be hosting its Festival of Trees from Dec. 2-5 and a Family Toyland Day on Dec. 7, according to a press release.
The Festival of Trees, scheduled for Dec. 2-5, will feature displays of 6-feet tall or larger decorated Christmas trees and wreaths supplied by local businesses, schools, churches and other organizations. Trees and wreaths will remain on display during the entire month of December with the exception of Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 when the Butler Lodge is scheduled to be closed.
The state park’s Family Toyland Day will be held Dec. 7 starting at 8 a.m. with a breakfast with Santa, according to event organizers.
The breakfast, scheduled to be held 8-10:30 a.m., includes a “grinch breakfast” of green eggs and ham and regularly priced adult and child’s buffet available for purchase.  
Family Toyland workshops including face painting, story hour and trackless train rides will be held from 9 a.m. to noon in the lodge mezzanine.
The day will close with a family holiday concert at 7 p.m. in the lodge mezzanine, according to the release.
Butler state park will also be accepting food and bedding donations during the Toyland Day to benefit the Carroll County Animal Rescue Shelter.
Those attending only the Family Toyland workshops can purchase a $5 family fee pass for a family of four at Butler Lodge.
