Study reveals Anderson’s pain pill consumption

County highest in area, received 8.1 million pills from 2006-12

 Anderson Countians consumed more pain pills per person than nearly every other county in the region between 2006 and 2012, according to data released last week by The Washington Post.

The Post analyzed data maintained by the Drug Enforcement Administration and sifted through 380 million transactions nationally, the newspaper reported.

Data show pharmacies in Anderson County received 8,187,310 prescription pain pills during that timeframe, enough for 55 pills per person per year.
