Woman indicted for embezzling more than $67,000 from local animal shelter

Melanie Aitken, 47, of Versailles, who was the former treasurer of Home at Last, an animal rescue organization in Lawrenceburg, was charged with three counts of theft by unlawful taking of more than $10,000 by the Anderson County Grand Jury Tues., April 8.
According to Detective Bryan Taylor of the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation was prompted by an embezzlement complaint. An investigation of Aitken’s financial statements examined 1,500 transactions through the Home at Last checking account over the past three years, revealing a total of more than $69,000 had been embezzled.
