City park evacuated, residents told to shelter indoors after major gas line struck

UPDATE: The city park reopened and the shelter indoors warning was lifted around 11:30 a.m., emergency personnel announced after Atmos Energy shut off a leaking natural gas line near the park.

A natural gas leak forced the evacuation of the city park at the American Legion this morning, and residents in the block from Gailane Street, Carlton Drive, Broadway Street and U.S. 127 Bypass are being told to shelter indoors and extinguish any ignition sources.
