  • Historical society to meet Feb. 23

    The monthly meeting of the Anderson County historical society will be held Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Anderson Public Library. This month’s speaker, George Geoghegan, will discuss “An Architectural History of Lawrenceburg.” This meeting is free and open to the public.

  • Woman charged with DUI following two-car wreck

    Three people were transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center after being rear-ended by a suspected drunk driver Friday afternoon at the intersection of US 127 and 62.
    Officer Jeremy Cornish said the female driver of the pick-up will be charged with a DUI citation after rear ending the vehicle in front of her.
    The female driver of the second vehicle, who will be cited for operating a vehicle with a suspended license, was transported to Frankfort Regional Medical Center, along with her two passengers.

  • Farm Bureau donates $200 to food pantry

    In recognition Food Check-Out week, held Feb. 19-25, the Anderson County Farm Bureau Federation plans to donate $200 to be spent on food for Open Hands Food Pantry.
    The High School FFA students on Feb. 21 will also participate in distributing literature concerning Agricultural Facts and Food production in America at Kroger and Wal-Mart.
    According to the Kentucky Farm Bureau, “the cost of food in America remains affordable.

  • Lovers Leap Winery changes hands

    Lovers Leap Vineyards and Winery came under new management last week.
    Former owners Logan and Pam Leet confirmed last Friday morning that they had sold their interest in the winery.
    The Leets operated the winery for several years after taking it over from its founders, Jerry and Ann Holder, according to the winery’s website.
    The names of the winery’s new owners were not listed on the website. An answering machine at the winery said it will be closed until March 1.

  • Legion and Auxilary attend winter conference

    The American Legion and Auxiliary winter conference was held in Louisville on Jan.  27-28.
    Department Auxiliary President Lois Hall conducted the Auxiliary meeting.
    Unit 34 members attending were Unit President Betty Butler, Department Membership Chairman Pam Rice, Department Community Service Chairman Chrisie Halvorson and Nettie Halvorson.
    Junior members were Department President and Historian Janna Halvorson, Chaplain Anna Boyles and Secretary Hannah Drury.

  • Anderson Retired Teachers to meet, Stamp Club hosts gathering

    The Anderson County Retired Teachers will meet Feb. 10 at Foliage Restaurant at noon.
    Lunch will be provided.

    The Kentucky Stamp Club to meet Feb. 11
    The February meeting of the Kentucky Stamp Club will be Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. at Memorial Baptist Church, 130 Holmes St., Frankfort.
    A game called “Stamp Bingo” will be featured and prizes related to stamp collecting will be given.

  • Friends of the Library to meet

    Friends of the Anderson Public Library is scheduled to meet Feb. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at the library.
    New members are welcome.
    The group meets the second Wednesday of the month at the library at 5:30 p.m.
    If there is no school, there will be no meeting.

  • Pierian Woman’s Club joins Shop and Share effort

    The Lawrenceburg Pierian Woman’s Club will join the statewide chapters of the Kentucky Federation of Women’s Clubs as volunteers at the Feb. 4 Shop & Share program.
    Club members will collect donations (lists of needed items will be available) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Kroger market at Anderson Crossing and 127 Bypass South.
