  • Local artists to participate in Louisville art fair

    Lawrenceburg artists Brenda Plaster and Bob Gibson will be participating in the upcoming September Art Fair to be held Sept. 7-8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Mellwood Art Center in Louisville.
    The fair is free and features 150 juried indoor and outdoor artists as well as 200 resident artists, ‘The Art of the Quilt’ Exhibition, live music, food, children’s tent and more.

  • Western and Western Anderson school homecoming set

    The former Western/Western Anderson School will have a homecoming event on Saturday, Sept. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the American Legion Park on Broadway in Lawrenceburg.
    Potluck dinner will be served at 5:30. Everyone who was a student, graduate, teacher, principal, employee, or in any associated with the school is invited to attend the school’s first ever homecoming celebration and encouraged to bring their favorite homemade dish and drinks.

  • Kentucky poet laureate to speak at Anderson public library Saturday

    Frank X Walker, the current Kentucky Poet Laureate, will be speaking about his work on Sept. 7 at 2 p.m., according to a news release.
    “This is a great opportunity to learn and hear from one of Kentucky’s great poets,” event organizers said in a release. “Please help get the world out and let’s support our local authors.”

  • Senior center to host Grandparents Day event

    Helping Hands-Heart of Community (HHHC) will be sponsoring a Grandparents Day celebration lunch on Sept. 8 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Anderson County Senior Citizens Center, located at 160 Township Square.
    “Bring your grandparents or special senior friend to enjoy an Italian meal and classical guitar music with family,” event organizers said in a news release.   • Humane Society to hold ‘Pizza for Pups’ fundraiser

    The Anderson Humane Society will be holding a “Pizza for Pups” fundraiser Aug. 29 from 6-8 p.m. at Edwardo’s Pizza on Glensboro Road.
    The buffet (dine in or carry out) includes salad, pizza, pasta, potatoes and chicken wings. Dinner can be ordered from the menu as well.
    The Anderson Humane Society cares for homeless animals until they can find their new family, fundraiser organizers said in a news release.

    The Anderson Public Library will be offering the following classes in September. All classes are subject to cancellation, and class space is limited to five students.   • Commonwealth Attorney’s Office joins campaign to reduce drunk driving

    Commonwealth’s Attorney Laura Witt Donnell is joining with law enforcement throughout the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign Aug.16 through Sept. 2, according to a press release.
    “The strong nationwide impaired driving crackdown will include high-visibility enforcement, high-profile events, and will be supported by national paid advertising, creating a comprehensive campaign to curb alcohol impaired driving in August and through the Labor Day holiday weekend,” the release said.
