  • Pleasant Hill fishing tournament...

    By Jeff Lilly

    Outdoors columnist

Spring is here and a lot sure goes on around the Lilly households much like most other homes I guess.

Before you know it we’ll be wishing for those cooler days and nights once our hot and humid Kentucky summer rolls in here in a few weeks. Nothing lasts forever so let’s all enjoy the weather, good times with family and friends and all the great things and many blessings God has given us on this earth.

  • Twelfth-inning homer sends Lady...

Kaci Currens belted a home run in the top of the 12th inning to give Anderson County a 4-3 win over Oldham County in the Eighth Region Tournament championship game, played at Gallatin County High School Wednesday night.

The Lady Bearcats will play the 15th Region chapion in the first round of the state tournament at Jack G. Fischer Park in Owensboro. Game time is set for 6 p.m., EDT. The winner of the 15th Region is not scheduled to be crowned until Thursday night.

For complete information, see the June 4 edition of The Anderson News.

  • Anderson baseball wins big in...

NEW CASTLE, Ky.  – Just call them the “Battlin' and Blazin' Bearcats.”

Anderson County pitchers Conor Cotton and Josh Brown fought their way through a day when they did not have their best stuff while Bearcat runners repeatedly frustrated South Oldham to score a 7-3 win in the Eighth Region high school baseball tournament Monday at Henry County High School.

  • Records are shattered on track...

LEXINGTON – It had been only a few moments since Tyson Yett's had completed his day's work when his grimace told what kind of day it had been.

    It had been painfully close.

And it had been simply painful.

Yett, an Anderson County High School senior, placed second in the triple jump, his signature event, and third in the high jump at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Class 3A state meet, held Saturday at the University of Kentucky.

  • No nonsense for Lady Bearcats in...

WARSAW, Ky. – Three batters into Monday's Eighth Region Softball Tournament, Brent Aldridge had seen enough of the nonsense.

His heavily-favored Anderson County team, ranked among the 20 best high school teams in Kentucky, already trailed North Oldham in an elimination game at Gallatin County High School.

  • Thanks, Coach Hyatt!

I hope I never got Bobby Hyatt in trouble.

If you've been in the Lawrenceburg Walmart in the past few years, chances are you knew Mr. Hyatt from that perch just inside the right-side door.

    “How you doing today?”

Or it might be one of a thousand other greetings. Regardless of the words, they were always accompanied by a huge smile.

For me however, the topic was usually football. It might have been what was wrong with the Kentucky Wildcats or what was right with the Anderson County Bearcats.

  • Bearcats, Lady Bearcats move on...

The Anderson County High School baseball and softball teams continued their marches toward state tournament berths Tuesday night with wins in the semi-finals of the Eighth Region tournaments.

At Henry County High School, the Bearcat baseball team scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to oust Carroll County, 5-1. Brice Stockton drove in the go-ahead run for the Bearcats and reliever Josh Brown was credited with the win.

  • Bearcats, Lady Bearcats advance...

The Anderson County High School baseball and softball teams rolled to wins in the first round of the Eighth Region tournaments Monday.

At Henry County High School, the Bearcat baseball team got a gritty pitching performance from Conor Cotton and Josh Brown in 7-3 win over South Oldham.

Anderson, now 16-13 on the year, moves on to play Carroll County in the regional semifinals Tuesday night at Henry.

At Gallatin County High School, the Anderson County softball team ripped North Oldham 7-2.

  • Anderson, Oldham draw in...

Anderson County and Oldham County, the only ranked softball teams in the Eighth Region, drew in opposite brackets of the regional tournament, scheduled to begin Monday afternoon at Gallatin County High School.

Anderson, ranked 18th statewide, is to play North Oldham at 2 p.m. in the first game of the lower bracket. No. 22 Oldham County drew Collins in the first game of the tournament at 10 a.m.

Complete pairings for the tournament are as follows:

    May 26

Oldham County vs. Collins, 10 a.m.

Gallatin County vs. Grant County, 12 p.m.
